Dr Cult-O M.E. Reviews “The Polka King”

REVIEW:
The incredibly bizarre true story of Jan Lewan, self professed “Polka King” from Poland to Hazleton Pa. Chubby and not modest, Jan is a sweet and loving schmo with some talent. He is an even better bullshit artist, and thinks the best way to keep the dream alive is to cheat money from old people in a classic Ponzi scheme.

The great Jack Black makes the movie a winner. His performance is his best to date. Jenny Slate is cast as his wife Maria, self centered but foolishly naive. The music scenes are charming, and the black comic elements kept me smiling.

The documentary “The Man Who Would Be Polka King” (also on Netflix) is essential to follow viewing. Bravo!
